Hello there, Bin Weevils.
Welcome to the first weekend discussion, here on Bin Bloggers. Today, I will be discussing and reviewing the recent hacks and attacks to Bin Weevils, why they happen, and why I feel that they could be a good thing.
Welcome to the first weekend discussion, here on Bin Bloggers. Today, I will be discussing and reviewing the recent hacks and attacks to Bin Weevils, why they happen, and why I feel that they could be a good thing.
Recent Hacking
In December, exploiters managed to gain access to the Bin Weevils global player pool high score boards, and manipulate names to highly inappropriate, offensive and explicit phrases. We've also seen an example of this in the early months of 2016, when hackers also got access to change a random magazine, bypassing the moderation safety features in place. This also meant lot's of rude and offensive content got posted in the game.
Bin Weevils Response
In the rare event that any explicit content does bypass the Bin Weevils moderation systems in place, the 55Pixels team always respond extremely quickly. Sometimes they will manage to get a problem resolved extremely quickly, if they can't they temporarily block features of the game or close the game for maintenance for a matter of hours.
Is it a good thing?
This is a question I've constantly asked myself - and have been in debate with for a long time. I strongly believe that exploits and hacking is sometimes a good thing for the 55Pixels team. This is because it helps to sharpen response times, refine plans for such events and also helps the team become more experienced in stopping such an event to happen again. So whilst hacking does halt Bin Weevils, I believe it is also helping Bin Weevils maintain it's safety record and could help the game in the long run.
Why do people hack?
People may hack for several different reasons, it could be that they are an idiot and just like breaking games, or may want Bin Weevils to implement something into the game, but the 55Pixels team are refusing to do. Either way, the minority of hackers and exploiters are idiots as they ruin the game play experience for the majority.
I hope you enjoyed this weekend discussion, and I'd love it if you would share your opinions and what you think about hacking, as well as leaving suggestions for next Saturday's discussion in the comments below.
